Cambro taps Samet to lead the expansion of their manufacturing and distribution facility in Mebane

Foodservice plastic equipment maker Cambro Manufacturing hopes to break ground as soon as the second week of June on a new facility that will nearly double the size of its Mebane operation.
The company, based in Huntington Beach, California, has filed preliminary plans for a building of 379,672 square feet on land across N.C. 119 from its current manufacturing and logistics facility in the 600-acre North Carolina Industrial Center on the west end of the eastern Alamance County.
“It’s going to be a distribution center, purely storage and distribution to support our customers east of the Mississippi,” domestic Director of Logistics Michael Ortiz told the Triad Business Journal.
Cambro is expanding manufacturing operations at the existing Mebane plant of about 476,000 square feet to add product lines it now makes in California then ships to Mebane for distribution to customers, Ortiz explained. It’s half manufacturing and half logistics. The new building will be for storing, packaging, and shipping by truck. The company hopes to open it in the fall of 2025.
“Right now we if we don’t carry it in North Carolina, we make it in California and then I move it across country to that Mebane facility, who then picks the orders and ships them to the customers.What we’d like to do is it’s just really eliminate that the cross country move and make some of these products in North Carolina and ship directly to customers.”
Cambro bought the 25-acre site in 2020 for about $1.2 million, according to Alamance County property records. It’s zoned for industrial use and is not expected to require action by Mebane’s planning board or city council.
The size of the investment in the expansion hasn’t been fully determined yet, Ortiz said.
